Solheim Cup stories: Catriona Matthew secures 2013 victory

Catriona Matthew will soon be hoping to direct Europe into Solheim Cup success six years on from securing their most recent success.
Matthew showcased during her nine Solheim Cup appearances as a participant on three winning sides, using the Scot famously.
Europe held a two-point advantage after the opening afternoon and procured a clean sweep in the Saturday fourballs to take a 10.5-5.5 lead into the Sunday singles, by which Matthew confronted Gerina Piller.
Anna Nordqvist halved the day’s opening game, while wins Charley Hull, Carlota Ciganda and Caroline Hedwall – that feature in the 2019 side – took the team of Liselotte Neumann to 14 points and ensured the trophy would return to Europe.
Matthews enrolled the instant holing a four-footer in the last to claim the half-point required to keep the cup to the first time.
Europe goes to win the competition by a record-breaking perimeter, claiming seven and a half of the available points to finish a convincing 18-10 success.
